After saying goodbye to our summer interns, Caroline and Chase, we welcomed two new faces to the Blood:Water office! We can’t wait for you to get to know Casey Rice and Meredith Seymour over the next few months! For now, we asked them a few questions about what makes them special to help us introduce them to you, and they obliged.

Why did you apply to be an intern at Blood:Water?

I had been praying for God to open up doors and show me where to go. Soon after, one of my professors told me about Blood:Water, and I got really excited. I had never heard of Blood:Water before then, and the more research I did, the more I wanted to be a part of it. I love the work that Blood:Water does, and it falls in line with my passions. Whatever I do, I want it to make a difference in someone’s life, even if I may not physically see the difference. Blood:Water is making a difference in the lives of people in Africa and stateside. It’s amazing to have the ability to be a part of that! So I applied, and I’m now blessed to work alongside the amazing team that is Blood:Water.

What is your dream job?

Oh man, I’ll have to get back to you on the specifics of that one. I love helping and caring for people, so my dream job is being in the position to do that.

What is your favorite book?

The Bible.

What is your favorite pastime?

Hiking, and being outdoors. The mountains are my happy place. (Excuse the corniness of that statement)

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Lo mein noodles! I know that isn’t technically a meal, but I can eat lo mein all day ery’day.

Tell us one of your special quirks!

I am really good at making any situation awkward, without intentionally meaning to make it awkward. It can make life really entertaining!

Why did you apply to be an intern at Blood:Water?

For the last few years, my heart has really been pulled toward working in the nonprofit sector, especially for a nonprofit organization whose mission has an international impact. On top of that, I have also developed a heart for Africa. I’m not sure what initially drew me to Africa specifically, but I believe that God has placed a love for Africa and its people on my heart for a purpose that I will someday discover. Blood:Water was all of these things rolled into one, and it is an organization founded on and existent for the ultimate purpose of loving people, giving hope, and sharing the Gospel. My faith is the most important thing to me, so I especially loved this about Blood:Water. Needless to say, I had to apply. It was the opportunity of a lifetime with an organization that embodied some of my favorite things in life. I was, and still am, so incredibly excited for this opportunity and for the lives that will be forever changed through Blood:Water’s partners in Africa and their work that I will be able to play a small part in during my time here.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to work for a nonprofit organization developing marketing strategy and fundraising campaigns. I love to travel, so I would also love to have a job that allows flexibility to travel or requires travel. Ultimately, I just want to be able to put the talents God has given me and the skills I have learned to use in order to make a positive impact around the world for Christ, and I feel that the best way I can do this is through nonprofit marketing.

What is your favorite book?

My favorite book changes every time I read a new book, but my latest favorite book is Love Does by Bob Goff.

What is your favorite pastime?

My favorite pastime is listening to music, or exploring new places, or spending time with family and friends, or all of those things at the same time. 🙂

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

If I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life, it would be grilled chicken with pasta and Alfredo sauce. Can I include dessert? Because I definitely couldn’t live without ice cream too.

Tell us one of your special quirks!

The quirk that my brothers enjoy making fun of me the most for is that I personify things and get really sentimental about them. For example, I always feel bad for the ugly pumpkins during fall because no one wants to buy them, and I can’t spend too much time picking out a Christmas tree because I’ll start to feel sad for the trees that don’t get chosen. Don’t even get me started on toy stuffed animals.
