Blood:Water Book Club: New Month, New Book

If you haven’t heard, we’ve started a Blood:Water book club! Each month, we’ll choose a book that has somehow shaped what we know as an organization, that relates to our work, or that provides inspiration. (We’re also open to suggestions, so if you have a great recommendation, please let us know!) As we read through the book, a different staff member will blog about their thoughts on what we’re reading each week.

Last month, we read “When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor… and Yourself” by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert, and discussed the major theme of doing the greater good without doing long term harm. This month, we chose “Visions of Vocation” by Steve Garber.

Steve has been an integral part of the Blood:Water story since the beginning, and continues to be a mentor to our founders today! When discussing his book “Visions of Vocation,” we will be focusing on the central theme of, “In our own different ways we are responsible, for love’s sake, for the way the world is and ought to be.” (18)

We are also giving away one free copy of the book! Post the message below to Twitter and email to let us know you’ve posted it before 4:00 p.m. CT today. We’ll randomly select and notify the winner via email by 5:00 p.m.!

“I’m joining the @bloodwater#bookclub. We’re reading “Visions of Vocation,” and I want to win a copy! Help me win by retweeting this tweet!”

Read the first section, and check back next week for the first staff reflection.

Happy reading!
