We are just over a week away from the end of our Save a Drink, Save a Life™ journey in 2016! Thanks to the liquid sacrifice of our participants, and the support of their family and friends, we are one step closer to providing 3,750 people in Africa with safe, clean drinking water.
Giving up your favorite drink is never easy! Amanda knows the struggle; she has been drinking only water since the start of Lent. However, her perspective has carried the weight of her perseverance. She shared her progress and setbacks thus far, and what makes it all worth it in the end:
I’ve been participating in Save a Drink for a few years now by giving up drinking anything but water for Lent. Every day is a struggle because I really like coffee and soda, almost to the point of being addicted. But it’s a good journey for me to give up something to realize that I can take control of my life, and I don’t have to always fall to my whims and desires. It’s also always a crazy thought that as I go to get water, I can quickly turn on the faucet and clean water comes out– so many in this world don’t have that luxury! I love donating my savings at the end of Lent every year knowing that so many more people will get clean water because of it.
As we approach the end of Save a Drink™, it is important to not only reflect on why we are determined to finish strong, but how we are going to do it! If you would like to help us reach our goal, you can donate to our campaignor select an individual, like Amanda, to support. And, if you are a participant, keep pressing onward by saving those drinks, and don’t forget to reach out to your friends and family to cheer you on!
