We are in the final week of Advent. We hope that as you making the final preparations for Christmas, you are continuing to prepare your heart to celebrate the coming of Christ. We invite you to reflect on the wonder that His coming brings with this poem from Brooke Waggoner:
A tangling of trees. Moss forming crushed green velvet. Bits of Catmint. Garden Myrrh underfoot. Birch Leaves crystallized. Vapors of Blue Vervain. A constellation of Grackles. Plucky Water Bears surviving the vacuum of space. Overtones. Light so warm you can taste it. Argentinian flamingos. Spirited Hummingbird Hawk-Moths. The intrepid St. Agatha. Spindrift and Celestial Blues snaking their way ‘cross miles of beach. Mass of Sheet Weavers’ webs, fancy and frightening.
An intrinsic system so mystifying it brings one into a state of reverence. Fascination. Bewilderment.
Sheer wonder.
Sheaths of water enveloped in Cirrus, Alto, and Stratus. Rings of haze.
Circles of white feathers roped together in snowy strings of pearls.
A lost language — Norn, Sowa, Jassic — Mother tongues that now lie deep inside the earth. Overgrown by Spinifex and Pink Muhly. Volcanic ash compounding into Blue Biggs Jasper — the cracking of shells revealing electric jewels.
Marble caves and glacial lakes.
The I know this place feeling. A mother’s intuition. Blood bonds.
The gift of being a macrosmatic mammal. Fermentation.
A cerulean sky, contrails overhead. Moon Vines.
Wood frogs freezing and frozen bubbles. High voltage humans. Color wheels and matrices, tones of 12. Variations in hue. Symmetry. Fibonacci. Prime Spirals. “The Most Beautiful Equation.” Circle of Fifths.
Multitudes of sins being covered by love. The renewing of your mind.
The binding force behind every form.
Vigor from a Father unlike anything in our wildest imaginations.
An intrinsic system so mystifying it brings one into a state of reverence. Fascination. Bewilderment.
Sheer wonder.
