Have you ever seen a musician play while balancing on the end of a diving board? We have.
We never know what will happen when we host house concerts. If it’s outside, will the weather be beautiful? Will the host rally behind our cause? Will the musical guests give it their all?
You may not think standing at the end of a diving board while playing a guitar is all that exciting, but that night, it was. Drew Holcomb sang his heart out for Blood:Water. He sang his heart out for Africa.
It was the perfect way to end the night at our Memphis house concert.
While we hail from Tennessee, our reach hadn’t quite spanned deep into the heart of Memphis. That’s when Sports Agent Jimmy Sexton stepped up and volunteered his home.
You see, a house concert gives Blood:Water the opportunity to intimately tell our story and what we do in Africa. Friends of Blood:Water who truly have a heart for what we do, rally their friends and acquaintances to give them the opportunity to be part of the story. Our artist partners, like Drew Holcomb, lend their talents to the cause.
So that night—on a perfectly beautiful fall evening—guests mingled around a dim lit pool, dined at delicious catering stations and enjoyed a low-key evening getting up close with Blood:Water. Drew laced his songs with story-telling from his roots in Memphis to his travels to Africa with Blood:Water.
And, before we knew it, Memphis helped us raise enough to provide 2,700 people in Africa with access to clean water.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude and look forward to making this a Memphis tradition.
