We are honored to share Blood:Water’s 2025 Annual Report, The Power of Community.
Last year, more than $40 billion in global development assistance was abruptly terminated, and the effects across East and Southern Africa were immediate and severe. Blood:Water’s partners lost an average of 31% of their annual budgets almost overnight. Many had to lay off staff, but more than half of those staff came back as volunteers, determined to protect the health gains their communities had spent years building.
But this isn’t a story about what was lost: despite extraordinary disruption, our partners continued serving their communities with courage, wisdom, and unwavering commitment in 2025.
In the report, Executive Director Nadia Kist reflects on why this moment made the conviction behind Blood:Water’s model even clearer that lasting change depends on local leaders and the organizations they steward. You’ll also read about Funding the Frontline_, our commitment to double the number of frontline partners we support over the next three years.
Inside, you will see what that deep partnership made possible in 2025:
- $1.7 million invested to support 11 partner organizations across five countries.
- Partners strengthened to serve 1.1 million people across all of their programs in health, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), HIV/AIDS, and livelihood strengthening.
- Our role in growing a movement that trusts, resources, and follows local leadership.
Local organizations are resilient and powerful because their leadership comes from real, meaningful relationships with their communities that won’t disappear because outside funding does.
