The recent funding freeze threatens decades of progress toward ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. For the 26 million people living with HIV on the African continent, uninterrupted access to care isn’t just important – it’s vital for survival.
Yet within this challenge lies tremendous opportunity. The opportunity to lead and accelerate an end to the deadliest pandemic. The opportunity to collectively safeguard the work of communities at the intersection of the hardest hit region and sector: East and Southern Africa and HIV/AIDS. This fuels our unwavering hope and commitment, despite the immense weight of it all.
For 20 years, Blood:Water has been positioned at this same juncture partnering with local organizations to advance community-led HIV responses out of the core belief that the sustainable end to HIV-related disparities must be rooted in and led by local communities.
Our partnership model is built specifically for the unique challenges of HIV/AIDS. We are able to act fast with the long term in mind. This means getting funds to proximate community partners with support that will sustain their work long after our partnership ends. This historic moment demands the urgency of this approach.

We are raising $5,000,000 USD in new commitments toward community resilience amid HIV/AIDS funding cuts for the next 3 years. This investment will:
- Safeguard local partners by reducing financial vulnerability
- Sustain locally-led community health infrastructure
- Strengthen organizations for longevity, autonomy, and overall health
- Provide continuity of integrated community health, education, livelihoods and WASH to the hardest-hit communities
- Identify and onboard new partners who are left behind
We cannot do this alone and we cannot delay our collective response. There is great power in the collective action of people. That has been the heart-beat of the HIV-movement since the very beginning, and remains so to this moment in time.
The time to act is now.
