Opportunities in Funding Health & Wellbeing of Women

Overview

The key discussion at the 2024 African Philanthropy Forum focused on the urgent need to transform how philanthropy operates across the continent. Speakers emphasized shifting from fragmented, informal giving to more structured, strategic, and transparent philanthropic approaches. A central theme was the importance of empowering local communities and African leaders to drive development agendas, ensuring that funding aligns with real, on-the-ground needs.

The panel highlighted innovative financing mechanisms, such as leveraging remittances and blended capital, as vital to unlocking sustainable resources. Despite a projected rise in African wealth, philanthropic giving remains limited, signaling a misalignment between capacity and commitment.

The conversation called for collaboration across sectors and cultures, greater accountability, and a redefinition of philanthropy that centers African voices and leadership. The ultimate message: for Africa to transform, African wealth and philanthropy must be intentionally mobilized toward homegrown solutions and long-term impact.
