Despite global income improvements, access to water and sanitation (WASH) remains unequal, influenced by race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. Addressing these disparities requires deconstructing power dynamics within the WASH sector, as highlighted in a recent discussion at the Water Meets Health Conference. This article explores how historic legacies contribute to these inequities and proposes ways for researchers, NGOs, and funders to foster greater equity and justice in their practices.
