Global Curriculum Guide for Community Health Workers

Overview

This guide supports the development and implementation of training curricula for community health workers (CHWs), with the aim of strengthening the delivery of essential health services at community level.

It provides guidance on identifying the competencies community health workers need to perform their roles effectively and designing learning programmes that respond to those needs. It recognises that CHW responsibilities differ across countries and health systems, meaning training should be adapted to local health priorities, service delivery models and community contexts.

For CBOs involved in community health programmes, the guide can inform the design of CHW training, capacity-building activities and partnerships with local health authorities. It is also useful for organisations supporting community health workers to strengthen their knowledge and skills.

Note: This is a guide for designing and adapting CHW curricula, rather than a standard training package to be delivered without modification.
