In Danger: UNAIDS Global AIDS Update 2022
Overview
Despite decades of progress, the global AIDS response is faltering. According to the UNAIDS 2022 report In Danger, gains in prevention and treatment have stalled, leading to widening inequalities in access and outcomes.
Regions once making strides are now seeing increasing new HIV infections—notably in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Latin America, and parts of Asia and the Middle East. Meanwhile, funding has shrunk. As resources tighten, progress risks slipping even further.
The report highlights three urgent needs:
- Equity in access—ensuring marginalized populations aren’t left behind
- Innovative, cost-effective approaches to stretch limited resources
- Stronger accountability, data, and community engagement to guide adaptive decision-making
